You first memorise a set of “pegs” — images that look like the numbers (number shapes) or rhyme with the numbers. Then you “hang” each item you want to remember onto the peg using vivid imagination.

Number shape method: 1=candle, 2=swan, 3=trident, 4=sailboat, 5=hook, 6=trunk, 7=cliff, 8=snowman, 9=balloon, 10=bat. Rhyme method: 1=bun, 2=shoe, 3=tree, 4=door, 5=hive, 6=sticks, 7=heaven, 8=gate, 9=vine, 10=hen. Choose whichever is easier. Practice until pegs are automatic.
